RtA Celebrates Launch Their Collaboration With 21 Savage At Saks Fifth Avenue Atlanta

by Olympia Dalley October 16, 2022
written by Olympia Dalley

On October 6th, 21 Savage hosted a celebration at the Atlanta Saks Fifth Ave in honor of the launch of his co-designed capsule collection.

Earlier this month, 21 Savage collaborated with fashion and lifestyle brand RTA to launch his co-designed denim and streetwear collection. David Rimkof, CEO and founder of RTA, and Savage 21,set out to co-design a collection that would be unlike any album merch we’ve seen. The exclusive eight-piece capsule collection comes ahead of his latest album release and embodies 21 Savage’s style. “Savage and I have been mutually appreciative of each other’s work for quite some time. We both aligned on the fact that our art is an ongoing process, a journey of constant improvement. We spoke about putting together a product that leaped ahead of standard merch, which most artists put out.” stated Rimkof. “The play on his tattooed dagger and our iconic cross was seamless, hence us fitting it into the primary logo. This features a hand-drawn dagger replacing the cross at the center.”.The limited-edition collection is five pairs of jeans in custom washes, a denim button-down shirt, a long-sleeve shirt, and one graphic t-shirt. The latest collection launched exclusively on the RTA website, Saksfifthave.com, and select Saks Fifth Ave Stores.

In honor of the launch, 21 Savage hosted a celebration for the limited edition collection at the Saks Fifth Ave Atlanta. Along with 21 Savage, fellow rapper Yung Joc, and the CEO and founder of RTA, David Rimkoff, were all in attendance. 21 Savage arrived at the epic launch party dressed from head to toe in his favorite pieces from the co-designed collection. The entire RTA X Savage collection was displayed for all attendees to view the capsule collection in person. Take a peak at the collection and pics from the event below.

fylí Hosts An Exclusive 4-day “Impact Driven” Milan Fashion Week Experience

by Olympia Dalley October 13, 2022
written by Olympia Dalley

From September 24th to the 27th, fylí hosted a small group of key investors and entrepreneurs to have an in-depth and exclusive look at Italy’s Diversity, Inclusion, and, Sustainability initiatives experience during Milan Fashion Week. The experience was curated by global culture visionary, advisor, and catalyst, Orietta Pelizzari, who personally saw guests through viewings of designer collections, meet-and-greets with showroom owners, catwalk presentations, and participation in D&I and Impact workshops. “Now more than ever, the Italian fashion industry is seeking more sustainable practices, greater diversity and inclusion, and impactful international relations,” explains Orietta Pelizzari. “This curated Milan Fashion Week experience is a huge leap in the right direction to support these initiatives.”

On day one, we hit the ground running with an introduction to Orietta Pelirazzi at the “Fashion Hub Market” at the ADI Museum. The entire ADI Museum had displays of upcoming designers, the KIA Designer Awards participant’s pieces, and help catwalk presentations.

Tiziano Guardini was the first presentation held at the ADI Museum. The Tiziano Guardini SS23 presentation was the perfect way to kick off all the excitement during the MFW experience. Guadini’s SS23  collection celebrated the 10th anniversary of the brand with gorgeous kimonos with prints and embroidery. The presentation was lively, and the limited edition pieces were worn by dancers who performed throughout the show.

Next up, on day one of fylí’s Milan Fashion Week experience, our group had the opportunity to view the winner of the CNMI Social Impact Award MFW22,  Ara Lumiere SS23 collection. Ara Lumiere is a collective of designers and gives voice to women who have survived acid attacks. The Hothur Foundation and Kulsum Shadab Wahab, titled this season’s collection “The Unbound,” celebrate the freedom of self-expression through art. While walking through the installation, a few survivors were on stage, hand-painting dresses displayed for the SS23 presentation.

We finished wrapped day one by attending the “The Power Words” Presentation. The Power of Words by Thalé Blanc is the brain child of Deb Sawaf. The concept came from the idea of having a positive impact an break down stigma surrounding mental health through fashion. Each piece in the collection has positive words that are meant to empower the person wearing them and the people reading them off the garment.

On The Scene: Gypsy Sport x LAFW S23

by Claire Kay Hernandez October 12, 2022
written by Claire Kay Hernandez

On Saturday October 8th I attended the Gypsy Sport Spring 2023 Fashion Show. Held at the Lighthouse Artspace in Hollywood, the building was formerly and most iconically known as the legendary Amoeba Music Building. A fitting venue for the style of Gypsy Sport.

The Gypsy Sport logo filled the room as the beat of the music intensified- anticipating the start of the show. This was Rio Uribe’s second show back in Los Angeles, his hometown.

In its entirety, the show explored the classic Chicano character and many of its diversified forms. To be Chicano isn’t necessarily one stereotype. Fashion is expression. There are endless possibilities and forms to express being Chicano.

The iconic Pachuco zoot suit made more than one appearance on the runway. Being further deconstructed from its classic form each new time it stepped out on the runway with a different model.

New life was brought to these long standing classic styles within the Chicano community. As each model walked the runway, their energy merged into the look and became one identity. It was beautiful to see how many interpretations one can produce of one iconic style design.

If LA Chicano fashion culture was reimagined, it would be by the hands of Rio Uribe. His ability to take risks and play, recalling his memories from being a teenager in Los Angeles is refreshing to see.

DC Fashion Week 2022

by Gaëlle Claude October 11, 2022
written by Gaëlle Claude

It is officially that time of the year again, the District’s multi-award-winning fashion show is finally back! This is the time of year when locals and out-of-towners casually stroll in their best outfits. Between the hosts, models, and show attendees, we can never tell who’s best dressed. DC Fashion Week, Season 37 welcomed its guests with some outstanding events. The week kicked off with a mixer at a venue in Dupont Circle. This was a great opportunity for creatives to meet one another, show off their skills and learn more about emerging designers. The room was filled with conversations and laughter; but, the best part about the mixer was the runaway. The models gracefully walked the runaway as they interacted with the crowd. Of course, the runaway isn’t as fun, if guests don’t join! Many attendees had the chance to show off their catwalk, and get framed by some talented photographers. On day two, the Washington Menswear Collection show was hosted at the Patterson Mansion. This location was perfectly picked for this collection. Many new designers and local artists got to showcase their best pieces, including formal and streetwear. Day three was dedicated to the ladies. The women’s collection was nothing ordinary. We got to see futuristic designs, beachwear, and casual pieces. What one could appreciate about the show was the wide diversity in the designs. The stories that designers shared were heartfelt, you see and hear the passion in their work. On the last day, the crowd was simply wowed! Day four was dedicated to international couture. International couture day introduced us to designs from all over the world. the color, the designs, and the patterns were a must-see. DC Fashion Week put on an amazing show for all attendees. If you have not been, be sure to attend next year. You won’t regret it!

fylí Partners With SHŌ Club To Host Milan Fashion Weeks “Illuminating Your Purpose To Create Impact” VIP Dinner

by Olympia Dalley October 5, 2022
written by Olympia Dalley

On September 26th, The “female mastermind group” Fylí and the global hospitality group SHŌ held an exclusive dinner at Cracco to close MFW for a group of Milan’s top fashion industry insiders. With sustainability, diversity, and global impact at the forefront of the conversation surrounding Italy’s evolving fashion industry, Fyli’s “Illuminating Your Purpose to Create Impact” brought together women from across the globe to form valuable connections that will lead to necessary action.

Milan Fashion Week’s “Illuminating Your Purpose to Create Impact Dinner.” Guests dining at Cracco.

While fashion shows, celebrities, and designer clothing usually take center stage during fashion,  not too far behind the curtain, there’s an entire industry of designers, advisors, and investors working to bring sustainably and diversity to the forefront of the global fashion industry. With this in mind, the CEO of Fylí, Jaclynn Brennen, paired with culture visionary, advisor, and catalyst, Orietta Pelizzari, to connect some of Fylí’s U.S based key investors and Milan’s most notable figures within the fashion industry. “Now more than ever, the Italian fashion industry is seeking more sustainable practices, greater diversity and inclusion, and impactful international relations,” explains Jaclynn. “Fylí joined the Milan Fashion Week calendar to develop a curated experience to help create conversations and forge the relationships, resources, and funding necessary to drive actionable solutions.”

Among the group were CNMI Sustainability Fashion Award Winners – Ara Lumeire and NKWO, renowned showroom CEOs Ricardo Grassi of RG Showroom and Sabrina Scarpelinni Bonini of Massimo Bonini,  Head of Fashion at Riscante Federica Montelli, Italian designer Luisa Beccaria, Head of Sustainability and New Brands Projects for the Italian Fashion Council, Paola Arosia. During the evening’s reception, Catherine Sypert, COO and Head of House at Fylí, shared a little more insight into what sparked the idea to host the “Illuminating Your Purpose to Create Impact” dinner and dive deeply into Italy’s fashion industry. “There’s been a lot of effort to focus on sustainability and cleaning up the fashion industry, which is the 2nd most harmful industry to our planet. While the Fylí community is industry agnostic, we have many impact investors looking for opportunities to invest in companies that impact, are focused on improving the world, and elevate women.” Fyli’s Community Manager, Mia Callens,  added, ” Italy’s dedication to sustainability and seeing how the needle has moved towards sustainability in the Italian fashion space is something that the global fashion industry can learn from. It is amazing how they set up different initiatives and legislation to hold designers and brands accountable for creating more green production processes so we can continue pushing for a better planet for future generations.”

The evening was not without some excellent food and fun. At each guest table setting were custom-made place cards; one was the menu, and the other with three questions for each guest at their table to answer during their introduction. The menu was curated and sponsored by the upcoming hospitality group SHŌ. There was incredibly impactful energy flowing the Cracco and all of Fyli’s guests. Witnessing women from across the globe come together to learn from each other, uplift one another, and build relationships to create change through fashion was an incredible experience.

This Sotheby’s Auction is Your Chance to Acquire Rare Jewelry as Art by Picasso, Calder, Braque, Man Ray, and Many More

by Benjamin Schmidt October 1, 2022
written by Benjamin Schmidt

A first for the venerable Sotheby’s Auction House, Art as Jewelry as Art is a groundbreaking auction in more ways than one.

Expertly assembled by Sotheby’s Artist Jewelry Specialist and Head of Sale Tiffany Dubin, Art as Jewelry as Art focuses on an emerging class of increasingly in-demand works: precious and rare examples of experimentation and exploration by some of the world’s most celebrated artists. Dubin’s conceptually-forward understanding of art celebrates these artists as they explore new mediums, scales, materials, and application. Many of these unique pieces allow collectors to wear the art.

Rife with conceptual integrity and craftsmanship, there are some 150 thoughtfully chosen works of art in the sale, many of which can be worn as adornment or exhibited as part of a collection. Despite being made up of over a century of work, the intent of this sale is very modern, where today’s collectors are seeking more interactive, more unique, and more personal works of art.

For Ms. Dubin, “The focus of artists and their jewelry was on three elements: ensuring that it is limited or unique; that the piece is emblematic of the artist’s oeuvre; and that it is representative of the time during which it was made.”

Hairband

Calder Hairband, courtesy Sotheby’s

Among the highlights are Alexander Calder’s coils of hammered metal- presented as headbands, broaches and bracelets- which feel as if they’re an electric current fizzling with energy. These works have a rich provenance; closely associated with the Guggenheim family and once worn by Jeanne Moreau.

Orchidée (Orchid) Handbag

Lalanne Orchidée (Orchid) Handbag courtesy Sotheby’s

Claude Lalanne’s expression of personal style was through decorative flora and fauna, and that is deeply apparent in these works of jewelry as art. High achievements here include a series of creations taking advantage of an orchid-influenced motif. According to the catalogue, “[Lalanne] conceptualized these bronze works as gilded fossils to be worn and appreciated into perpetuity”. A highlight is a bold and poetic handbag. In a similar vein, a work by Andrew Grima (a favorite designer of the United Kingdom Royal Family) offers a remarkably accurate execution of a leaf as a broach with a diamond representing a dew drop.

Set of Two ‘Talisman’ Necklaces

Michele Oka Doner’s Set of Two ‘Talisman’ Necklaces. Courtesy Sotheby’s.

As for contemporary artists, work is well-represented. Particularly special is Michele Oka Doner’s set of two “Talisman” necklaces, informed by her scholarly understanding and emotional connection to the primitive and abstract. At once a work of engineering and instinct, the layering of stones and wire creates a spiritually charged work.

'Carrousel' (Carousel) Earrings

Line Vautrin’s Carrousel’ (Carousel) Earrings. Courtesy Sotheby’s.

'Le Cockerel' Brooch
Many works are imbued with a charming grasp of humor and lightheartedness, including Line Vautrin’s Carrousel’ (Carousel) Earrings and Jean Lurçat’s ‘Le Cockerel’ Brooch.
Set of a Obsidian Swallow Pendant and Jewelry Stand with Mirror

Hubert Le Gall’s Set of a Obsidian Swallow Pendant and Jewelry Stand with Mirror. Courtesy of Sotheby’s.

There are plenty of other highly-conceptual and theatrical works that take advantage of the human form to explore and examine, from Cartier’s chains to Man Ray’s sensual ‘Les Amoureux’ lips. Others enjoy the theater and theory of vanity and humanity, from Hubert Le Gall’s pendant that comes with a jewelry stand with mirror to Yury Revich’s Eye Jewelry.
The Art as Jewelry as Art online sale continues until October 4th, 2022 at Sotheby’s. You can browse the lots and place your bids at www.sothebys.com

BERLIN FASHION WEEK: Sustainability, Space, and Rebellious Femininity Take Center Stage in Berlin

by Benjamin Schmidt September 29, 2022
written by Benjamin Schmidt

Over the years, German fashion has slowly shed its image of being a deadly serious affair, with its often-somber silhouettes and straight-laced academic ideas, to something that is far more cutting edge, fun, and organic in character; exploring the bounds of beauty, wearability, and approachability. Berlin Fashion Week is the culmination of these ideas, with a week of celebration and shows.

On the Scene: Nolcha Shows SS23 NYFW

by Lenique Vincent September 29, 2022
written by Lenique Vincent

Five designers brought a crowd to the 69th floor of the World Trade Center for the Nolcha Show’s S/S 2023 NYFW Runway Show held on September 13.The brands included Mauricio Alpizar, The Tailory, Maya Seyferth, Kaiane Designs and Høst & Vår.

While Mauricio Alpizar debuted an “Animal Kingdom” collection full of vibrant colors, bold prints and graphics; The Tailory remained grounded in chic and edgy, clinging to the simplicity and sophistication of black in both formal and street wear genderless pieces.

Giving a nod to her home base, Zürich, Maya Seyferth created an elegant line solely based on the flower of the Alps, aka Edelweiss. The Kaiane Designs team also drew inspiration from their home, Saudi Arabia, as they created loose and silky nude  garments perfect for Middle Eastern desserts or date night.

Host & Vår channeled seasonal transitions through their “Flowers From My Garden” collection; creating bright and floral pieces complete with shy frills and puffs for an extra girlish flare.

Although each collection conveys their own messages, they all share one important value: sustainability. Each brand remains dedicated to preserving the Earth while creating fashion. Be sure to keep an eye out for these trailblazers who are ensuring a guilt free shopping experience.
