With a jam-packed schedule and the ever changing – newly restricting industry protocol it’s become increasingly hard for a young member of the press, such as myself, to find the excitement I once had during this time of year. However, VFILES has managed to reignite that dwindling light of New York Fashion Week enthusiasm.
Fashion & Beauty
World renowned Fashion Designer, Zang Toi debuted his autumn/winter 2017 collection during New York Fashion Week.
Libertine’s FW runway was the place to watch for cool-kid inspiration for the upcoming season.
It was a girl’s dream wardrobe at Katty Xiomara’s F/W 2017 Collection.
If you look for high energy on the runways of New York Fashion Week, Vivienne Tam’s FW17 show most certainly delivered. Inspired by the electrifying energy of Hong Kong nightlife – where the neon lights decorate the city skyscrapers – Tam’s collection showcased looks that were unafraid to be bold, bright, and fun.

No stranger to making a statement Anniesa Hasibuan’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection finds its niche by infusing elegance with politics.
Art and politics have always used each other like sieves to filter emotion and provide perspective. Prabal Gurung, inspired and spurred by the Women’s March on Washington the day after the Presidential Election, flecked his Fall/Winter ’17 collection with white t-shirts that read “The Future is Female” and “Revolution Has No Borders.” Hasibuan’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection is no different.

Hasibuan ensured her models were all either immigrants or first or second generation models. Having already made history by showing an all-hijab collection at fashion week last September, this move is poignant to her message of drama. The women, the clothes—extravagantly made gowns, skirts and suits—all speak of power. Opening the show in a cold, virginal white, Hasibuan transitions, using jacquard, sequins, tulle and embellishments of pearls and Swarovksi crystals, into warm hues of gold and amber. The voluminous skirts made from tulle and wide legged pants made of velvet finish in glittering silver and black. It’s a passionate collection emboldened by Hasibuan’s intensity.

Opening Ceremony co-founder Humberto Leon is known for throwing epic parties and this season’s old-school “Main Man” party was no different. Upon arrival, guests such as Adam Selman, Petra Collins, Chloe Wise, Ian Bradley and Kiersey Clemons were greeted by SVEDKA Cucumber Lime and Grapefruit Jalapeno cocktails and mini cartons of chinese food. Leon, McGinley and their friends, family and colleagues eventually made their way to the dance floor where everyone partied until 3AM with Misshapes DJ Greg Krelenstein. The scene set by 90s music, the fishtank centerpiece with neon-colored fish contrasting the traditional chinese wall decor was the essence of “New York cool” as guests, with ‘Firewater Walk W/ Me’ SVEDKA cocktails in hand, all got together for an over-the-top dance-off.
