This project is the first to emerge from Daniels’ multi-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television.
From the creator and executive producer of broadcasts no.1 series Empire, comes STAR. The new pilot from Lee Daniels will begin production this December in Atlanta,GA. The pilot is written, directed and executive produced by Daniels.
The difference between Empire and STAR is that there is an international casting search underway right now. The search is on for the series talent along with the three female leads who will play young artists striving to become a “star”. The series will portray the under belly along with the glamorous side of the music industry.
Lee Daniels is an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker whose work has stamped the film world with its veracity and uniqueness. Daniels is widely known for his Academy Award-winning film Precious based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire. In 2013, he released the critically acclaimed box office smash Lee Daniels’ The Butler. The film held the no. 1 box office spot for three consecutive weeks. Daniels is set to direct an untitled Richard Pryor biographical film for the Weinstein Company, which is set to begin production in 2016.
The STAR pilot is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Lee Daniels will write, direct and serve as executive producer of the pilot episode. Tom Donaghy (The Whole Truth) will serve as writer and executive producer on the pilot with Daniels.
