Kristen Wiig will replace Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming film Downsizing, after Witherspoon was forced to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.
Wiig starred on Saturday Night Live for eight seasons. She has also been featured in works such as Bridesmaids, Girl Most Likely, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the Despicable Me franchise, The Skeleton Twins, Martian and the upcoming Ghostbusters
Alexander Payne will direct the film which centers on an Omaha man who realizes that his life would be much better if he were shrunken.
Payne has elicited the help of Jim Taylor, who will be co-writing. The two men have previously worked together on the scripts for Citizen Ruth, Election, Jurassic Park III, About Schmidt and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, even winning an Oscar for Best Adapted Film for Sideways.
Downsizing will be produced by Payne and Mark Johnson along with Taylor and Jim Burke are executive producers.
Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz and Hong Chau will all be starring alongside Wiig in the upcoming Paramount film. With Damon and Wiig playing lead roles, audiences will get to see a reuniting of the stars from the film The Martian.
The cast of Downsizing is set to begin working together this spring but nothing more specific than next year has been announced as the release date.
