Ruffino wines, Air France and UniFrance presented a Special Screening of IFC Films’ “Personal Shopper” at Metrograph on Thursday evening.
From the film Kristen Stewart and filmmaker Olivier Assayas were in attendance. Additional celebrity
By day, American in Paris Maureen (Stewart) works as a personal shopper, motor-biking around the city buying up deluxe couture for a jet-setting celebrity client. By night, she attempts to channel the spirits of the dead, hoping to make contact with her recently deceased twin brother. When Maureen begins receiving a series of chilling, increasingly sinister text messages, it seems she may have made contact—but with whom? And what do they want?
On the red carpet Assayas said he hopes to work with Kristen again, “Well, I don’t think I’m done yet. I don’t think I know Kristen. I think there’s more to her than whatever we have done. I think that when we did Clouds of Sils Maria, I had this sense that she could go further than whatever we did. I did Personal Shopper just to see where the limits were, and I’m still wondering. I’m not sure what the limits are. I hope we can. I hope it happens.”
When asked if the film was influenced by our political climate? He said, “Oh, you mean in the sense that the whole country has tilted into the supernatural? No, no, I didn’t have that in mind.”
