Melanie Martinez hit the stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on October 29. She packed the house on Tuesday night in an intimate venue.
Fans were cheering and screaming, waiting for her to come on stage. She started off the concert with the first single on her album, “Wheels on the Bus.” Her energy was anything but short of, she came out on stage prancing in a bright pink baby doll dress with matching pink bows in her hair done up in pigtails. Her dancers were dressed in matching pastel colors prancing right behind her.
She continued onto her next song “Class Fight,” the energy was still as vibrant as she was, fans still singing along with much enthusiasm.
Martinez is known for her child like aesthetic, her 4th album K-12 centers around the theme of school experiences. She isn’t shy about criticizing the misunderstandings of mental health, and society’s sexualization of women. K-12 features 13 songs, with all the song titles being centered around school. From “The Principal,” “Drama Club,” “Detention,” “Teacher’s Pet,” “High School Sweethearts.”
Her music’s dark themes really opens your eyes to how she sees the world. Martinez wants her fans to really listen to her music and think about these themes she sings about and how the world is.
Fans have long awaited her new album, her last album “Cry Baby” debuted in 2015. Martinez ended the concert with a heartfelt message thanking her fans for their support.
