Shot in only forty days, Jeff Nichols shows us what he’s made of in Midnight Special, a film that he wrote and directed about a man and his supernatural son.
Nichols, whose previous works include Mud, Take Shelter, and Shotgun Stories, will bring together his most starry film to date, with a number of household names.
Michael Shannon stars in the film as Roy, a father on the run after discovering that his son Alton, played by Jaeden Lieberher, has supernatural powers. As this is Nichols’ fourth feature film, and also his fourth film to star Shannon, we can’t wait for its March 18, 2016 premiere. Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver, Sam Shepard, Paul Sparks, Scott Haze, and more are all signed on to star in the project.
The film will make its world premiere at the SXSW Festival in 2016, and with the poster looking very Close Encounters of the Third Kind (of which was said to be inspiration, along with ET, for Nichols) esque, we can’t help but wonder what it is that Nichols – and the son— will have in store for us. Perhaps the poster offers some clue, that he’s reading a Superman comic, so maybe Superman esque powers?
