Pier 17 was the location of Jason Wu’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection and return to the runway for NYFW. Wu focused on his signature textile manipulation techniques juxtaposed with summer colors and layers of silks adorning the pieces to reflect his new found vision going forward with his label.

We went backstage prior to the show with Tresemme to view the looks, hair and makeup aesthetic. The minimal hairstyles slick back ponytails fashioned by Odile Gilbert complimented the dusty faded, red blaze eye makeup. The beauty tables were set up in a corner of the vast industrial pier alike Wu’s design practice it drew parallel to the minimal notions complimented by specks of textile detail.

Olivia Palermo, Adriana Lima and Lucy Hall were just a few names that came to support Wu’s NYFW resurgence after a year and half of personal design development which was a refreshing take on Wu’s prior collections.

FIJI Water was the Official Water of the Jason Wu Collection Spring/Summer 2020 Runway Show. FIJI Water was on hand to hydrate the star studded front row with bottles decorating each seat. Models sipped FIJI Water backstage with signature FIJI straws while in hair and makeup.

The clothing comprised of gathered floral print dresses and romantic overlays, layers of tulle and minimal styling. The first look consisted of a floral two piece adorned with a silk satin trench coat that maintained an elegant aesthetic, followed by surface textile manipulation which has been a frequent technique used by Wu in past seasons.  Hues of aquatic blues, yellows and pinks were a focal point in this collection, a contrast to Wu’s past work. A feather display in combination with the placid colors and array of fabrics presented a unique display of garments providing a provoking return  to the runway.

Stylist Tip: “This look is sophisticated and fresh, perfect for the modern woman. The key to achieving the refined yet effortless finish is dividing the hair into sections and then spritzing TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist Hairspray layer by layer to hold the style in place while keeping the fresh and young feel.” – Odile Gilbert, TRESemmé NYFW Stylist

Step 1: Prep the hair with the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner for a smooth and sleek base.

Step 2: Pull the TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Mousse throughout hair from root to end.

Step 3: Spritz with the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Spray as well as the TRESemmé Moisture Rich Detangling Spray and then blow dry the hair smooth and straight using a large paddle brush.

Step 4: Using a wide tooth comb, part the hair into a deep side part on the right hand side of the face.

Step 5: Divide the hair into sections. Starting with the under layers, spray the TRESemmé Compressed Micro-Mist Hair Spray Level 1: Texture from the roots to ear-level of the hair, gradually building up layer by layer to the top of the head.

Step 6: Run your fingers through the front and crown of the head to give a natural finish.

Step 7: Use a black elastic band to secure a pony tail at the nape of the neck, brushing through for a smooth and sleek finish.
