We attended Summer at the House of Kim Crawford event, a stop on a beautiful evening for many including Kate Bosworth, friend of the house. Read on to learn about the scene!
The biggest problem with the Kim Crawford house was that is was only open for one night. Indeed, I repeatedly overheard guests at this posh event attended by artists; restauranteurs, Kate Bosworth, and more speak about how they wished it wouldn’t end so soon. Located in an enormous seven story townhouse steps from Washington Square park, the evening was the perfect temperature, and the crowd was excited. Kim Crawford has nearly household name status at this point, making mid-market wines with expertise. Kim Crawford house was an opportunity to show off the amazing adaptability of seven Kim Crawford wines, from a Pinot Gris to a Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was presented, as well as a selection of cocktails incorporating them, such as a fruit-motivated Berry Bombshell, using Pinot Noir, Raspberry SVEDKA, black berries, simple syrup and more. Another favorite was the Crawford Cooldown, with affectionately noted “Sauv B”, lime juice, cucumber, mint, honey, and soda water.
The house was opened out to the terrace, where wine-topped shaved ice and various canapés were served. A decent DJ to boot, upstairs guests could dance to music by DJ Harley Viera-Newton, look at Kim Crawford inspired art or have a hand painted portrait completed. By all accounts, it was a fabulous evening in NYC, Kim Crawford-style. Hopefully next time they come knocking, we’ll be home.
Here’s a recipe for the Crawford Cooldown:
Ingredients:
1 seedless cucumber, thinly sliced
1 lime thinly sliced
Fresh mint leaves
1/4 cup of lime juice
1/4 cup of honey
1 bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
1 liter bottle carbonated water, chilled
Instructions:
In a large pitcher, combine cucumber, lime slices and 12 mint leaves in a large pitcher. In a small bowl, stir together lime juice and honey until combined. Pour over cucumber mixer, add wine, stirring gently. Cover and chill for at least two hours. (Recipe makes a batch. For single serving, use parts;1 oz = 1 part).
