On February 4, Hickey Freeman debuted their Fall/Winter 2016 collection in Soho during New York Fashion Week 2016. This season’s collection featured an Americana vibe, drawing from earthy tones and textures with exquisite tailoring. The season featured three separate collections, one called “Highlands,” the second “The Strand,” and the third “Greenwich.”
The Highlands collection featured the colors rust, olive and bordeaux and was separated into a day and night section. The New York based brand said this collection was inspired by the “old world meeting the new.” The day section had featured large plaids and extraverted houndstooths prominently with touches of denim here and there. Tailored wool suits with turtlenecks under seem to be a big thing trending for this company. The night section was mainly bordeaux with dark patterned suits. A highlight was a burgundy velvet suit with a black turtleneck underneath.
The Strand collection was inspired by the finance district of Manhattan and “the power suit [taking] on a decidedly contemporary attitude.” The colors in this collection were forest and indigo, and featured wool suits with unexpected color combinations, such as a classic navy suit with a pop of color in a green tie. Understated pinstripes and plaid were also featured heavily.
The Greenwich collection was the luxurious, “chill” section of this year’s collection. The colors featured were vicuna and ivory. Cashmere was huge in overcoats and suits. The clothes in this collection were more along the lines of “jogger suits” and comfortable trousers for lounging.
