We are Family Foundation will honor Bono at 2016 Celebration Gala in April.
The We are Family Foundation Humanitarian Award honors someone who makes a tremendous effort to improve the human condition around the world. Bono has worked as an activist for several years working to improve the AIDS crisis and poverty in Africa through cofounding the global advocacy and campaign organization ONE and (RED) a company partnership to raise awareness and funds for the fight against AIDS.
WAFF will hold their Celebration Gala on April 29 at the Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Tickets can be purchased on the foundations website. Bono will be honored by founder of the foundation and fellow musician Nile Rodgers. “For decades Bono’s passion for humanity continues through his work as a voice to solve some of our biggest issues on a global scale. I am proud to have him as this year’s We Are Family Foundation Humanitarian honoree, and I’m honored to call him a friend,” said Rodgers in a statement.
The foundation is a non-profit organization that works towards creating a global family by creating and supporting programs that promote cultural diversity and young activists. One of their programs, Three Dot Dash, identifies and mentors young people who are currently working on programs that help to improve a lack of basic human needs and promote peace. TEDXTeen is another one of their platforms where these teens can share their ideas and experiences.
