HBO Max’s first episode of “The Flight Attendant” left its audience in utter suspense last night after its virtual premiere on November 17th.
Prior to the event, VIP guests received “pre-flight kits” featuring an Italian Il Bisonte leather passport holder and an international flight of mini-cocktails and snacks inspired by the series’ international theme. The event kicked off with guests mingling in the ‘chat room’ and enjoying the ‘virtual red carpet’ of photos. Soon it was time to watch the show!
After Cassie, played by Kaley Cuoco, wakes up next to a dead body in a Bangkok hotel room, she realizes she has no idea what happened. Petrified and inconsolable, Cassie is forced to face the repercussions that follow while trying to prove her innocence.
A regular blackout drunk, Cassie can rarely remember what she does during a night of tossing back vodka shots. Consequently, while on a flight to Thailand, she meets a man named Alex. During flirtatious chatter, they find themselves making dinner plans by the time the plane lands. And after polishing off more than just a few drinks, a care-free and hungover Cassie is shocked to find Alex laying next to her, throat slit, with no idea as to how he died.
When she sees Alex’s dead, bleeding body before her eyes, she is left with a choice. Should she call the police or clear the room of her prints?
Similar to Netflix’s Dead to Me, the miniseries ensues a murder-mystery plot as Cassie grapples with uncovering flashbacks of the night that lead to Alex’s unfortunate fate. Inevitably, Cassie’s guilty conscious provokes unorthodox behavior while she struggles to keep everyone in the dark so she can figure out her next move.
Known for her comedic roles in The Big Bang Theory and 8 Simple Rules, Kaley Cuoco truly amazes us with her dramatic acting ability as she channels emotions of frustration, shock, and uncertainty in this miniseries. Other than her role as Billie in season eight of Charmed over 12 years ago, we have not seen a side to Cuoco like this.
An original and never-before-heard of story, The Flight Attendant is a series you won’t want to miss. As we embark into a new wave of COVID-19, it’s almost a necessity to find a distraction to keep your mind off of the devastating realties taking its course in 2020. The Flight Attendant just might be your vicarious escape into a COVID free, exhilarating world.
