One thing people have always seemed to enjoy is hearing some of their favorite songs covered by other artists because it creates a different kind of sound.
Pedro Capó’s newest album En Letre de Otro does just that.
Capo has been a recording artist since 2009, which is when he released his first self-titled album. Since then he has produced other albums and has worked with HBO Latino in the past.
HBO Latino hosted a debut party for Capo where he sang a few songs on the album and promoted an HBO special he recorded for the album. There was a lot of support for this album from other Latino people who work in music and film. Their overall reasoning for showing face at the event was the fact that it is important to show support for those that are doing well and have a good message.
“Supporting fellow Latino artists to me is an opportunity to strengthen our community, to strengthen our voice especially now given the climate of the world,” said J. W. Cortes, who plays Detective Alvarez on Gotham.
The carpet was filled with people who were there to do nothing other than support this project and support Capó’s vision with this album. Capó performed at La Marina in Inwood among the crowd of friends, acquaintances, and press, with a special guest Fey. Their voices rang high in the night as everyone around sang along and danced to some of their favorite oldies. Capo, a very energetic performer, kept the excitement high and expressed gratitude for everyone who came out to the event.
“It’s an experiment of grabbing these huge tunes and finding myself within them…I try to play them as if I wrote these songs,” said Capó right before he went on to perform. Also, mentioning that the artists of the songs originally were very pleased with the outcome of the album and he was excited to celebrate it.
This was a night full of love, fun, food, and good music as it raged on until they shut down. From the carpet to the giving away of t-shirts to even a nice serving of paella it was a night to remember. The HBO Latino special aired on August 11th, it can now be found on HBO GO, HBO NOW and HBO on Demand.
