Haider Ackermann, known for his exquisite tailored cuts, showcased an edgy Spring/ Summer 18 Collection at Paris Fashion Week on September 30.
The models had sculpted buzz haircuts created with frayed pieces of hair. There was a sharp red lip that stood out against the opaque stark white runway. The colors were consistent, each garment only varying in red, white, black, pale blue and golden yellow. Focusing on jackets, blazers and tuxedos that were assembled asymmetrically with defined lines, shading and cut-outs. Strong structuring served as a foundation for the collection as a whole, letting you decide which parts of the skin you want to reveal depending on the look. For those who want to still have a delicate feminine look without wearing a lavish gown, this collection is for you.
The lead makeup artist from MAC Cosmetics, Inge Grognard, and also a good friend of the designer shared insight about the models looks.
“I’ve known Haider a long time, and I know he loves a kind of sweat shirt graphic thing going on sharpness, he loves sharpness, and he loves minimal. In the collection, there is this red going on and so for some of the girls we decided to have a really blood red lip. The skin is really quite clean, there is only kind of a highlight on the cheekbones and a little bit of shape and sharpness that I mentioned before. In a way it’s very minimal but it’s all about the sharp lip. It’s like a V, not about a round sexy hot lip but a certain sharpness that can be seen when the girls are standing from a distance. Only some girls have the lip, depending on their outfits because I didn’t want it to clash with the colors of the clothes. For example, on the Black girls I don’t like it, it’s too much. I think their dark skin is so beautiful without it, so it wasn’t needed. So Haider and I decided together which girls we wanted to stand out more.”
