Galeria Melissa, an immersive shoe store enhanced by a virtual/tech art gallery theme had it’s grand opening on July 28th and the interior is probably unmatched by any other shoe store you’ve ever entered.
The structure of the development was created by Muti Randolph with creative art inspiration from Kelsey and Rémy Bennett. The store-meets-gallery is located at 500 Broadway in Soho and is totally hard to miss. The overwhelming amount of lights and raw illuminated structures certainly would draw in the curious pedestrian.
Randolph states, “We kept the idea of respecting the local environment. What we always try to do in all Melissa stores is to incorporate interactive facades that people gravitate toward in a very organic way. In New York, we have a very contemporary space contrasted by a classic architectural building iconic to the neighborhood.” Anybody who has been to Soho knows that the stores attempt to appeal to their clientele and the pace of the surrounding community. As this generation is very in touch with technology and everybody enjoys a unique shopping experience, Galeria Melissa truly provides something new to Soho’s neighborhood. Female empowerment is the current inspiration behind the artwork and even presentation of GIF’s within the gallery. The galleries will rotate four times per year, with the current gallery being titled “The Future of Her”.
Galeria Melissa NYC is not their only location, as there are two other locations in Covent Garden, London and their flagship São Paulo, Brazil.
