Singer and Songwriter Rowan Drake recently released his single Hollow on November 18th.
A majority of Drake’s songs are topic driven and offer him an outlet to express emotions and situations he is experiencing. Drake wrote the song Hollow after getting out of a two-and-a-half-year-long relationship. This song represents a love that has gone stale where the relationship dynamic has shifted to a feeling of emptiness. Hollow incorporates various rhythms and tones that pair with the lyrics to create a more digestible experience for listeners.
Drake wrote another song called Hey Little Sister, which touches on his experience growing up and witnessing domestic violence along with his younger sister. He created this song to honor his sister and express feeling as if he could have done more for her during those times. After years of discussions with his sister, this song represents the final step towards absolution and the opportunity to share a similar experience others may go through.
Drake’s music is a self-expression of various moments and traumas he has endured in life. His music incorporates raw emotions intertwined with lyrics and melodies that allow his songs to be relatable for listeners. The Knockturnal spoke with Drake about his single Hollow and how music has impacted his life.
