Samuel Mancini recently released his new song, ‘Infatuation.’

On September 3rd, Mancini released the first of four new songs that will be a part of the Deluxe Red Edition for his first mixtape ‘Feed the Fire.’ This mixtape reached great success as it climbed the Billboard charts for Top Album Sales and Top Emerging Artists. While also hitting iTunes Top 20 back in March. The song ‘Infatuation’ was produced and written by Mancini describing it as both “moody” and filled “attitude.” The incorporation of both Prince and George Michael-inspired melodies can be felt throughout the song. The cadence followed by the beat and rhythmical motions allows listeners to grasp the style and flow of Mancini.

Our Correspondent Rebecca Eugene spoke with Mancini regarding his newly released song and as well as his mixtape. The “deluxe red edition” will be released on October 22nd on limited edition vinyl, CDs, and Cassettes. It is currently available for pre-order at SamuelManciniStore.com.

The Knockturnal: On September 3rd, you dropped the song titled “Infatuation,” which is the first of the four songs to soon be released. What can fans and listeners expect to hear for the next songs? What excited you about dropping ‘Infatuation’?

Samuel Mancini: So the next few songs, they’re definitely going to be a little bit more upbeat. Actually, three are upbeat and then there’s another one which is a ballad, which is really cool. This one is actually my personal favorite of these new songs, I was really excited to drop this one. I wrote this all myself and produced it all myself, so that’s what I was most excited about.

The Knockturnal: What’s your favorite thing about the song ‘Infatuation’?

Samuel Mancini: My favorite thing about this song, I love the melody that I wrote. It’s moody and has a lot of attitude and I think it really shows how I like to sing.

The Knockturnal: You mentioned you produced and wrote these songs. Can you describe your songwriting process?

Samuel Mancini: That’s something I wish I could explain to myself as well, It’s literally different for every song. For “Infatuation” specifically I know that the chorus and melody came to me first and I kind of ran with that. Usually, when I catch a melody, I hop on the piano and figure out what chords go with it, where I can take the bridge or the verses. It’s crazy, sometimes lyrics just literally fly out of me and it’s like a breeze. Then there’s other times I’ll write a verse and I won’t get a second verse for like three weeks.

The Knockturnal: How long did it take you to write ‘Infatuation’? Was the process the same for each song?

Samuel Mancini: For ‘Infatuation’ I know I got the first verse and the chorus right away and then the second verse literally came like a month later. I know the next single I’m dropping, I think I literally wrote it in 10 minutes. I went into the studio with my producer – We were like “let’s make a new song.” It literally took 10 minutes and we wrote the whole thing. It’s weird how it varies.

The Knockturnal: What do you feel is your biggest motivator when writing a song and telling a story?

Samuel Mancini: My biggest motivator, I don’t know – I just have this drive about me that won’t die down. I just don’t see myself doing anything else, so I guess that’s my motivator.

The Knockturnal: How did it feel when your first mixtape ‘Feed the Fire’ hit both the Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart and Billboard’s Top Emerging Artists chart? What was going through your mind?

Samuel Mancini: I feel like a lot was going through my mind and nothing at the same time. I was like I know I worked my ass off, I know this stuff happens – But is this really happening to me right now? It was a new feeling for sure, I had the intentions of when I was working on this mixtape to achieve stuff like that. The whole ‘Feed the Fire’ mixtape was a hustle, to see it pay off in that aspect was a very motivating feeling. It gave me a lot of motivation and a lot of drive to want to keep on working.

The Knockturnal: Did the ‘Feed the Fire’ mixtape have an impact on the song ‘Infatuation’ and other songs to come?

Samuel Mancini: Yeah definitely, these songs are part of the in-between chapter to what I want my next project to be. I’m really excited about these songs and what they are making me write for my next release after these songs.

The Knockturnal: Where do you want to see yourself in the next five years?

Samuel Mancini: In the next five years I would love to have hopped onto at least one tour. I guess in the next five years I would hope to be doing my own tour – I would love to do movies as well. Just to be busy working and getting my name out there.

The Knockturnal: If you could collaborate with any artist(s) in the industry who would it be?

Samuel Mancini: I would have to go with Janet Jackson – I would love that. Rihana pops into my head and Drake would be cool.

The Knockturnal: How would you describe your style of music?

Samuel Mancini: It’s very pop R&B driven – I’m influenced a lot by Prince, like the late ’70s and the late ’80s. Which is like Janet Jackson control and George Michael, kind of like a weird mixture of those two. So, I guess I would categorize it as dance R&B and some pop. I pull inspiration from so many genres it’s hard to put myself in a box.
