Can’t get enough of “Schmigadoon!?
Well, you’re in for a treat, as the cast continues to sing their way into the audiences’ hearts with a few more episodes left in Apple TV+’s new musical comedy series.
The Knockturnal sits down exclusively with Broadway stars, Kristin Chenoweth, Jaime Camil, and Ariana DeBose to chat about their journey in the magical town “Schmigadoon!”
The “Wicked” star, Chenoweth, talks about playing the villain, Mildred Layton, how she shot an 18-page musical number in one take, and what really surprised her about being part of this series.
“What really surprised me, it shouldn’t have surprised me, because it’s so well done…but Cecily [Strong] and Keegan-[Michael Key], who are the hearts of our show, committed to these roles so beautifully that the other wacky characters could exist,” Chenoweth mentioned. “That’s what made me so proud, to watch Cecily and Keegan be our leaders.”
The series also stars Alan Cumming, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Fred Armisen, Jane Krakowski, and Ann Harada. Martin Short additionally makes a special guest appearance.
“Schmigadoon!” is co-created by Cinco Paul, known for his work on “Despicable Me,” and Ken Daurio. Paul serves as showrunner and wrote all of the original songs for the series. Barry Sonnenfeld directs and executive produces. In addition to starring, Cecily Strong serves as producer in the musical parody series.
