The latest film gracing the big screen, or in many cases the living room screen, is “Cut Throat City.”
The thrilling drama follows four friends in New Orleans who after Hurricane Katrina find their homes in the Lower Ninth Ward destroyed with no help from FEMA. Kat Graham plays “Demyra,” the strong and supportive wife of “Blink,” one of the four friends affected by the hurricane. “This film is sick, it’s honestly one of the sickest films I’ve ever done. So, I’m really excited for people to see this.”
Graham, widely recognized for various roles including “Bonnie” in The Vampire Diaries was excited to work on this film and tell a story seldom viewed by audiences across the world. “I decided that everything I was going to put my energy on was going to elevate black women and untold black female stories because I want them to get attention.”
Behind the scenes, the star-studded cast had a few fun moments, including epic dance battles. Graham says the cast is pretty talented on the dance floor. “I remember Wesley Snipes got in on it when we did Comic-Con because Missy Elliot started playing, and I mean Wesley can move!”
The action flick was directed by music artist RZA, an experience Graham cherished while working on the film. “He just vibes because he’s also a music producer and artist, he’s all about the vibe. So if something didn’t quite feel right or was really kind of taking on a vibe of its own, he really just kind of went with it. He’s probably the coolest and most connected director I’ve ever worked with for sure.”
Cut Throat City hits theaters August 21 and might just be the thrilling drama of the summer making a lasting impression for years to come.
