The Lie starring Joey King, Mireille Enos, and Peter Sarsgaard is a thriller that centers around the lengths parents will go to to protect their child. Part of Amazon Prime Video’s series Welcome to the Blumhouse, “The Lie” is one of the featured films in the installation.
Written and directed by Veena Sud, The Lie follows the life of Kayla [King] and her parents. With her parents being divorced, she’s had difficulty coming to terms with the co-parenting awkwardness of it all. When her and her best friend get into a fight, things take a turn for the worst. After she confessed to impulsively throwing her best friend off a bridge, and killing her; she seeks her parents help. Despite not having the best relationship, her parents work together and rush to cover up their daughter’s horrific crime. Think—The Parent Trap with a dark twist.
