The film is an adaptation of Delia Owens’ incredibly popular novel ‘Where the Crawdads Sing.’
Set in the marshes of North Carolina, the story follows two different timelines that eventually converge in a climactic murder trial.
Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Kya, a resourceful young woman who learns to survive on her own after she is abandoned by her parents and siblings. Jojo Regina portrays Kya when she is a child and delivers a powerful performance alongside Sterling Macer, Jr.’s character Jumpin and Michael Hyatt’s character Mabel.
As Kya grows older, she befriends Tate Walker — played by Taylor John Smith — who teaches her how to read and write. After Tate goes off to college, Kya is drawn to Harris Dickinson’s character, Chase Andrews. When Chase is found dead, Kya finds herself in the middle of his murder trial with a sizable amount of evidence stacked against her.
Outfitted with an astonishing creative team including an incredible cast, director Olivia Newman, producer Reese Witherspoon, and an original song written by Taylor Swift, Where the Crawdads Sing showcases the talent of many individuals.
“As a lover of the book, I was really excited to see how they were going to bring it to life,” Edgar-Jones shared. “When you’re adapting a book it’s really cool because you have so many different people in the different departments coming together to realize a vision.”
See Where the Crawdads Sing in movie theaters on July 15.
