With Father’s Day just around the corner, singer and songwriter Ciara gets candid about how she plans on celebrating her husband, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and all the nuances of being a working mother.
After coming out of the very unpredictable year that was 2020, Ciara is taking joy in being able to appreciate the more important aspects of life like family and love. While many struggle to figure out that perfect gift or activity to celebrate the father in their lives, the ‘Level Up’ singer finds ease when remembering to focus on what Wilson enjoys as well as not forgetting the key element to a special gift, love. “I think the greatest thing and the most important thing is to lead with love and to think with love,” Ciara explains. And there is certainly an abundance of love in the Wilson home with their newest edition to the family, Win.
The couple have a full house now but luckily older siblings, Future Jr. and Sienna enjoy stepping into the role of big brother and sister and helping out whenever they can. As for what they’re doing to show their appreciation to their father, Ciara allows them to express themselves in whichever way they feel best; “they love doing their little arts & crafts so I think it’s going to be fun to create something for him and let them do their own thing.” Juggling being a working mom and wife obviously presents its challenges but when given the opportunity to combine work with motherhood the global star jumped at the chance. Ciara and Russell partnered with All Good Diapers in their initiative to make a difference. “I loved the mission that All Good had as a diaper company and a brand and that mission is to impact,” Ciara explains. For every box of All Good Diapers purchased at Walmart, a day’s worth of diapers is donated to a family in need through Feeding America with the goal of donating up to 10 million diapers to babies by the end of 2021. It is critical to remember that today’s babies are in fact the New Originals who will be tomorrow’s leaders, champions for change and so much more.
With that sentiment in mind, founders of the Why Not You Foundation, Ciara and Russell Wilson have also created the Why Not You Academy, a tuition-free charter public school south of Seattle that’s set to open in September. The pair recently visited the school to meet and speak with the students as well as tour the facility. Wilson captioned an Instagram post of their visit to the academy, “WHY NOT YOU ACADEMY is here! We dreamed & talked about opening a school together the first day we met! We are blessed to say it’s officially here. To be able to help kids dreams come true is such a blessing.”
