The sky’s the limit.
That’s one of the many messages from Netflix’s newest animated film ‘Over the Moon.’ Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker and animator Glen Keane, Netflix and Pearl Studio brings the story of a bright, young Asian girl named Fei Fei (Cathy Ang) who goes on a special quest to meet the Moon Goddess, Chang’e, voiced by ‘Hamilton’ Broadway star, Phillipa Soo. During Fei Fei’s journey, she finds herself unexpectedly in a galaxy of fantastical creatures and learns the importance of moving forward in life.
In addition to Cathy Ang and Phillipa Soo, the all-Asian stellar cast includes Sandra Oh, John Cho, Ken Jeong, Kimiko Glenn and Margaret Cho, to name a few.
When The Knockturnal asked Soo how she prepared for her role as the superior Moon Goddess in one of the musical numbers, she mentioned she was really trying to imagine her character at the best ‘Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, K-Pop concert she’s ever been to.’
Jeong, who plays the ‘silly’ character Gobi, also said it was an honor being part of such a special film with so much diverse representation in the cast. “Having two daughters, I keep thinking about my own family when doing this movie. I feel like some of my future [projects] that I track are more for other people, particularly my family, and for future generations. I think about that more often,” Jeong tells The Knockturnal.
‘Over the Moon’ premieres on October 23rd on Netflix.
