Have the time of your life, for the rest of your life is exactly what Sheryl intends to do in the humorous film, POMS.

Bird Box star, Jacki Weaver’s eyes are wide open as she plays the role of Sheryl, the outspoken, filter less, neighbor of Martha [Diane Keaton]. Weaver shines in this classic film about self-love, acceptance and breaking barriers! Catch up with Weaver in our exclusive behind the scenes interview below.

The Knockturnal: So, you had a pretty spicy character, what was your favorite part of playing Sheryl?

Jacki Weaver: She was very saucy, yeah, and she was sort of extraverted and over the top and outspoken with no filter, she didn’t have a filter. I’ve got quite a filter, I’m more of your introvert. But I did love, I loved her kind heart. I loved how she was relentless in pursuing the Martha character played by Diane Keaton. She was determined to bring her out of her shell and make her enjoy herself which Martha was determined not to do. She’d gone to that resort style place to retire and stay away from people and I love that about, the kindness is what I think I loved about that character of mine.

The Knockturnal: And you know what, no matter your age, people are still learning so I was just wondering if there’s anything you’d still like to learn?

Jacki Weaver: I’d like to learn to be more patient. I’d like to learn not to snap at my husband. Not that I do much, my husband’s alright, I like him.

The Knockturnal: And speaking of learning, how much practice went into learning that routine?

Jacki Weaver: Well we did a two to three-week boot camp before we started and that was relentless. And I looked at it on film and thought, we worked harder than that didn’t we? It seemed like the routine was over in a second.

The Knockturnal: We of course know the perks of being young, but what are some of the perks to aging?

Jacki Weaver: One of the things I love about getting older is I don’t worry so much about my appearance. I’ll go for days without looking in the mirror but when I was a young woman it was always, oh dear, that’s one of the good things. One of the good things is, when your seventy-one like I am you could say what you want, really, as long as you don’t hurt people’s feelings. I mean try to be kind I think but other than that, speak your mind.

The Knockturnal: As an actor your job is to take on another persona, be someone else, but has there been a role where it was hard for you to tap into the character’s state of mind?

Jacki Weaver: Yeah, I’ve played a lot of, I’ve played a lot of, I don’t want to say crazy, I’ve played a few sociopaths and I do really need to work on my imagination as well as read a few books about being a sociopath. But it’s quite challenging and interesting and really fulfilling to get inside the head of someone like that. Anyone who’s really different from yourself is really satisfying to play.

POMS will be in theaters on May 7.
