“Alternatino with Arturo Castro” is a brand new variety comedy series from Comedy Central. The show’s description exclaims, “Follow Arturo Castro as he attempts to navigate life as a modern Latino man- whatever that means”, and there is no better way to describe this show. It comprises of several sketches per episode that depict hilarious takes on aspects of Latino culture. This spans anywhere from a serious 60 minutes-esque take on the classic elementary Spanish phrase “Dondé está la biblioteca” to a parody of a Latino late night talk show. Arturo also tackles several issues, informing people through the medium of comedy. “I feel like humor is a really disarming tool and it’s a really good informational tool,” Arturo said, “When you laugh and you’re relaxed, you’re a little disarmed, so the show tries to–with the best intention possible-inform a little bit sometimes.” While some aspects of the show are based on personal experiences from Arturo and the writers on the show, they also base it off of their own comedic sensibilities; “For the most part, what is making us laugh today, and then we go and put on a silly costume and try to do that for other people.”
