After a run in Broadway from 2022-2023 with the Leopoldstadt play, and a few projects later Erica Dasher is starring in Peacock’s new dark comedy and mystery tv series “The Burbs”. From Broadway and now back to television, Erica shares moments from the best of both worlds and her new role on the show.

The new series The Burbs is originally inspired by the 1980s film with the same exact name and now set in present-day suburbia. The horror comedy series shares the story of a couple who newly moved into the husband’s childhood home. The neighbor who moves into the house across the street, creating a plot of mystery and unknown, is what starts the horror and mystery. Erica stars in the new series alongside Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall.

The Knockturnal sat down with Erica where she shared the transition from the Broadway stage to being back on set for television and what her day to day looks like for both. She explained that they are both two different worlds, especially the pressure from both sides.

As theatre is rigorous and demanding and TV is fast paced, they have their clear differences. Broadway is a world where the cast is big and the same people every day. Erica shared the joy of working for a live audience every night and the excitement that came along with a live crowd.

The Burbs was shot in LA, and as a Newyorker, she shared her love for Broadway but was excited to return to Los Anglees to work on the new show. Getting her own trailer and building the family dynamic with her cast is something that Erica shared her enthusiasm for, especially how cool and grounded everyone on set was.

In the series, Erica plays Alison, who is a pivotal character and driving force for the first season. She goes missing and once lived in the house across from Samira, played by Keke Palmer. Erica shared her preparation and approach to playing a character who has been carrying hidden trauma and a back story to her.

Following into the approach of her character there was help from Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall who also shaped Alison’s performance.

Dasher, who has played a variety of roles in films and television shows, including Jane by Design, and on Broadway, revealed which characters most resemble her and which kinds of roles she has portrayed she can identify with.

With behind the scenes and on-set memories shared, The Burbs has a lot to offer for different crowds.

For those who haven’t started or watched the series, Dasher said people should go watch the show  because “you have no idea what’s going to happen!”
