DaBaby is having himself a resurgence, of sorts. Fresh off the release of his fifth studio album ‘Be More Grateful‘, the Charlotte rapper is finding success as he embarks on his tour for the project which has ultimately been pretty well received.
Catapulted by the single “Pop Dat Thing”, his high-energy dance anthem that’s been making waves, DaBaby opened to a crowd last week desperate to hear his latest offerings – and he surely didn’t disappoint.
Performing to a sold-out crowd in Atlanta, DaBaby – real name Jonathan Kirk – reminded the audience of a couple things during his slightly over an hour-long set. One thing being, despite all the antics he finds himself in, he continues to prove himself as one of the more technically-sound rappers of this time. Another thing he proved is that, the best method to get your fans to forget about some of your recent antics is to make a hit, and his discography is full of those. DaBaby had no problem keeping the crowd rocking, following impressive opening sets from Bri3, H3adBand, and Zeddy.
Atlanta also remains an important bar for artists, particularly Southern artists like DaBaby, to examine their cultural impact – and if Friday was any indication, DaBaby is doing pretty well. While this was the “Be More Grateful” tour, highlighting his recent drops such as “Don Julio Lemonade” and “Pootie Tang”, he effortlessly moved through his earlier albums as well when crowds just began to fall in love with his unique and precise rhyme scheme. Most importantly though, the “Be More Grateful”-era feels more like a reinvention of sorts – drawing him back into favor with the masses, who seem eager and prepared to welcome him back into the hip-hop cultural zeitgeist.
