Writer and director Sarah Polley brings unbridled honestly to the forefront of her film adaptation of Miriam Toews’ acclaimed 2018 novel in the highly anticipated ‘Women Talking.’
The film tells the story of a group of women from a remote religious community as they deal with the aftermath of sexual assault perpetuated by the colony’s men. The resulting film is mesmerizing — a combination of Polley’s imaginative directing and the movie’s incredible cast.
Women Talking stars Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Frances McDormand, Ben Whishaw, and Judith Ivey, among others. The entire cast delivers captivating performances that explore self-determination, group responsibility, faith, forgiveness, and additional themes.
The Knockturnal got the chance to chat with Claire Foy, Rooney Mara, and more at the film’s NYFF premiere.
“I think Sarah is a very special director,” Claire Foy said of working with Polley. “I think she has such a huge heart, she is so giving, she is ego-less — which is very remarkable for a director — and whatever she gets, she gives out. She is so generous to her crew and her actors.”
See Women Talking only in theaters December 2.
