What a wonderful world of wonder this could be. The Advocate teamed up with the Beverly Center and queer-programming powerhouse World of Wonder to throw the most heart rending Pride event of the season. RuPaul’s Drag Race superstars Violet Chachki, Bob the Drag Queen, Ginger Minj and Kim Chi joined host Carson Kressley on a raunchy-for-the-mall panel about fame, the state of drag and mall food.
“I look like a thumb,” said Ginger as she came out to rapturous applause and gay screams.
“Yeah a green thumb,” said Bob.
Violet Chachki was the spiciest of the bunch, going in on everything from drag – “I’m so over drag” – to New York City.
“New York is too much and not enough.”
Both Kim Chi and Violet just moved to LA, and both seem to be enjoying the wide open spaces and non-stop great weather.
Bob just loves Wetzel’s Pretzels.
Each queen performed a stellar number. Somehow I’d never seen any of them live, despite being big ass fan.
Violet did a burlesque bit that turned everyone bisexual, a seductive and sinewy feat that ended in a pasties-over-nips reveal. I couldn’t have yelled louder.
Bob’s Patti Labelle lip sync was like, probably the most thrilling drag performance I’ve seen…ever? And he didn’t even have to do much.
He contorts his face, snarls and conveys so much so effortlessly. And his lgbtqia flag dress reveal was devastating. Check out this video. Damn!
This was a great time. I hope Pride never ends.
