The Brooklyn Academy of Music hosted its annual Gala at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in New York City.
This year’s event honored Grammy-Award winning musician David Byrne, genius filmmaker Spike Lee, and esteemed BAM board member, Claire Wood. The event also featured a special performance by Grammy-Award winning artist St. Vincent. Each recipient of the night was saluted for their service to Brooklyn, BAM, and the arts. “This funding is crucial in helping us build a BAM that connects artists and audiences and strengthens communities through the presentation of work that promotes new ways of seeing and new artistic collaborations.” said by BAM president, Gina Duncan.
During the carpet, other attendees spoke with us about the night, the importance of supporting the arts, and the honorees. “Contributing to the arts it’s very important, people who contribute to the arts are doing God’s work, so thank you for that!” says Gbenga Akinngbe. Roger Guenvuen Smith and Woody McClain also weigh in on the importance of supporting the arts. “When my team sent me the invite and it was no questions asked. We had to be here!” says Woody McClain.
