The Knockturnal attended Hornitos Tequila Out and The Advocate’s 2024 Cover Party: “Pride of Broadway” to celebrate the LGBTQ+, allied theater community and its June cover star – Jonathan Groff!
Out & The Advocate magazine’s hosted their Pride Cover Party: Pride of Broadway. The star-studded celebration held at Somewhere Nowhere NYC honored Out & The Advocate cover stars Jonathan Groff (Merrily We Roll Along) and Wayne Brady (The Wiz), respectively. The celebration was hosted by Sam Champion (Good Morning America) and Nina West (RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 9). Special guests included Nick Adams (Fire Island), Plasma (RuPaul’s Drag Race) and Justin David Sullivan (& Juliet).
After the amazing performances, including a stunning vocal performance by Titus Burgess, I headed up to the rooftop to enjoy breathtaking views and have my portrait taken by the Photography and Light Tech team led by Matt Monath and Sequoyah. Additionally, I admired the stylish creations by Ligardy Hats while sipping on MARG MODE.

On the red carpet, I had the opportunity to speak with the talented Wayne Brady about his new reality show, Wayne Brady: The Family Remix, on Freeform and Hulu. He emphasized the deliberate and genuine nature of the show, illustrating how his family navigated through divorce while demonstrating true friendship and love within their blended family. This gives us an honest look into the relationships that are at the core of his life. Brady’s honesty and dedication to living his truth are truly inspiring to me.
Additionally, Brady is starring in the Broadway revival of The Wiz, playing the titular role. The amazing cast and this classic production are drawing an enthusiastic audience, reintroducing the message of The Wiz and belief. Unity was a prevailing theme, as Broadway and arts professionals gathered to network and celebrate their collective talent and achievements. The atmosphere was powerful, highlighting the boundless talent and pride within the community. It instilled a profound sense of pride in oneself.
