Imagine a world where meat is created without harming animals. Sounds nice, right? Not quite. Enter Blood Free, ( alternately known as Dominant Species or 지배종) a captivating Korean thriller now streaming on both Hulu and Disney+.
The show centers on Yun Ja-yu (played by Korean actress Han Hyo-joo), a CEO leading the revolutionary company: Blood Free, also known as, BF, which produces meat alternatives. But her groundbreaking innovation comes at a cost.
As BF’s popularity skyrockets, Ja-yu finds herself entangled in a web of controversy, facing accusations that threaten both her company and her life.
Enter Woo Chae-woon (played by Korean actor Ju Ji-hoon, known for his roles in “Kingdom” and “Princess Hours“), a former soldier with a stubborn yet likable and satirical attitude. Their paths collide, and Ja-yu entrusts Chae-woon with her protection.
Together, they navigate a world of danger, unraveling the secrets behind the attacks and the growing opposition to BF.
From the first two episodes, we are already introduced to several different characters with multiple possible storylines.
“Blood Free” is a masterfully crafted blend of action, suspense, and science fiction. With two episodes already released, the series has us hooked, leaving a trail of unanswered questions: What dark truth lies beneath BF’s success? Who are the unseen forces orchestrating the attacks? Is there a traitor lurking within the company?
This K-Drama is a refreshing and new type of genre that as a Korean drama lover myself, it seems very promising for future episodes. Blood Free not only is a thriller, there is mentions of science and fictional twists that add on to the story, unlike anything I have seen before!
