Cream cheese has been an important part of the New York City food scene for an imaginable amount of time. The spread has undeniably played a role in the rise of the city’s bagel empire.
While it’s been represented in a variety of desserts, cream cheese has yet to get the independent role it deserves. Becky’s Bites on 7th st is looking to change that. Opening Friday the 28th, the cute little shop is overflowing with meticulously crafted cream cheese desserts. You can definitely lose track of time bouncing back and forth between all the different bite sized treats. My standout favorite has to be the apple pie that somehow manages to give you a slice-full of flavor in a single bite. My other highlight is most definitely the strawberry cream cheese spread that, as someone who typically associates cream cheese with a savory taste, took my palette for one crazy ride.
From sampling almost everything on the menu, I get the feeling that Becky works with cream cheese as if it were a blank and malleable canvas. The opportunities are practically endless, and I expect the menu will change over time as she continues to experiment. So stop by this Friday. They’re open late and to top it all off, they have coffee so all your bases are covered.
