Last Friday, I had the pleasure of attending the Bad Bunny concert, and it was an unforgettable experience. I arrived at 8 PM and the lines outside of Barclays Center went on for at least two blocks.
Inside, everyone was dressed up in cowboy hats, boots, and tassel fringe vests. As we entered the arena, we were given a cowboy boot light necklace that would light up during the show. The atmosphere was electric, with amazing outfits, food vendors, and a live orchestra. The orchestra played for ten minutes before Benito made his grand entrance. He emerged from under the stage in a cloud of smoke and started his set with “NADIE SABE.” The orchestra then accompanied him in his second song, “MONACO.” Benito rocked a customized Gucci burgundy look and their Jackie Bag.
In case you missed it, Bad Bunny started the concert wearing a backward Yankee cap with curls coming out, but here’s the secret… it was not his real hair. During the second half of his show, there was a quick intermission. When he returned, he showed off his buzz look, symbolizing his transition from Bad Bunny to Benito. This was a nod to his roots and where he started in 2016, sending the message that no matter how successful he becomes, he will never forget where he started.
Bad Bunny went on to perform the rest of his songs from his latest album, including “FINA,” “PERRO NEGRO” and “BATICANO.” The crowd sang along to every word and was ecstatic when Bad Bunny brought out special guest Yovngchimi to perform their hit collab “MERCEDES CARTOA” together.
The concert setup consisted of two half-stages, which he performed on both, and a bridge that descended from above and spun 360 degrees, allowing all his fans to see Bad Bunny perform face-to-face. Later on, lights dropped down around the bridge, re-creating the Brooklyn Bridge.
If you recall back in October when Bad Bunny announced this tour, he stated that he would not perform any of his songs from previous albums, but lucky for us he changed his mind and had the entire crowd feeling nostalgic by performing some of his greatest hits such as “Diles” “Yo Perro Sola”, “La Santa”, “Me Porto Bonito”, “Dakiti” and the crowd’s favorite, “Safaera”
During his concert, Bad Bunny displayed his talent in a surprising manner by playing the first notes of his song “Amorfoda” in an unconventional way—upside down on the piano. This unexpected performance left the audience astonished. He also delivered a touching rendition of his song “un x100to” with a soulful accompaniment on the piano.
The night was truly unforgettable.
Bad Bunny exceeded all expectations with his performance in Brooklyn. He came to rock the city and that’s exactly what he did. Just when you thought he couldn’t get any better, he surpassed even his own standards and rose to the next level. As he often says in his songs, he’s not at his peak he is in his prime.
