Coming in from the cold in an au naturel look…
The Chilean designer Maria Cornejo is famous for her simple yet sophisticated designs. Founded in 1998 Nolita-based retail brand focuses on high quality and long durability of the fabrics and the timelessness of the form. The style of Zero + Maria Cornejo Fall/Winter 2016 collection was no different and the beauty and hair stylizations followed suit.
The inspiration for the beauty & make-up stylization was the theme “coming inside from the cold.” All of the models were supposed to look effortlessly fresh, with blushing cheeks and nude, fleshy nails.
We spoke to Danielle Candido from Morgan Taylor who explained to us the inspiration behind the dirty-ish nails. According to brand’s philosophy the Zero woman is natural and primal. According to Candido the manicure’s “dirty look conveys a raw desire to escape from the harshness of the winter.” To create this earthy look Danielle used “Birthday Suit” and “In The Nude” as the base and then with the help of a kitchen sponge (!) and “Little Black Dress” nail polish finished off with the “digging through the dirt” ombre.
Dick Page was the lead makeup artist for the show and he gave us an insight how to create the fresh and natural look. Surprisingly, the only two products used to create the look were Shiseido foundation and new Rouge Rouge lipstick in “Rouge Rum Punch.” Page achieved the perfect blush by first applying the lipstick onto the cheeks and only then tiny bits of foundation where needed – under eyes and around the nose.
James Pecis who overlooked the hair of the models focused on creating a slightly messy look, with middle partition and slight waves around the neck – as if the model just took her scarf off when coming indoors from the cold wind.
Overall stylization gave out a very effortless and natural look – one that we can all identify with.
