On The Scene: HBO Max ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Season 2 Premiere
Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble
On Thursday November 10th I attended the premiere event for HBO’s Season 2 of The Sex Lives of College Girls. I missed my alma mater’s homecoming this year, and The Sex Lives of College Girls definitely made up for it! The premiere truly felt like a college homecoming.
The night started off at the iconic NeueHouse Bradbury in Downtown LA. Hosted by HBOMax and Phenomenal, Essex College Career Night was a blast. Upon walking in guests were welcomed with a quick photoshoot. There were signature cocktails at the bar including Jungle Juice and Essex Mules. Stars Pauline Chalamet, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott were in attendance.

Waiters walked around with trays of finger foods including grilled cheese, mini sliders, and mushroom tacos. While there, guests were able to customize their own Essex College sweatshirts! There was also an interactive wall where attendees could share their own college journey. Attendees were encouraged to pick a colored ribbon and plot life moments that brought them to where they were today. Some of those moments were super goofy, “came drunk to class, did undie run, had $1 in my bank account.”
Creators of the show Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble were in attendance and gave a speech thanking the cast and crew for their hard work, and celebrated everyone’s accomplishments thus far in their careers. Upon leaving guests were given goodie bags packed with all the things needed to conquer a college tailgate. Goodies included @LIVETINTED Hueguard & Hueglow, @CALPAK Water Bottle Holder, and an @YETI Water Bottle, along with a $50 Postmates gift card to enjoy the day of the premiere.

The screening took place at Los Angeles Center Studios where guests got to see episode 1 of season 2. With this new season comes even more chaos and sticky situations for our leading ladies to dive into, together. It will be exciting to see just what’s in store for season 2 as the stakes continue to rise.
Following the screening was the afterparty directly outside. Music was by ROSEGOLD with a special guest performance from artist Joyce Wrice. Wrice performed music off her latest EP, Motive with Downtown LA as her background. The energy between her and the crowd was beautiful to witness.

The party included fun interactive games such as beer pong, connect four, table tennis and bean bag tossing. Food trucks such as Coolhaus and Trejo’s Tacos provided delicious food to munch on in between the dancing and playing games. Bumble was taking pictures of guests to update your instagram or dating apps with.
Safe to say, this was the best Homecoming I’ve ever been to. The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2 premieres Thursday November 17th on HBO Max. Be sure to tune in!
On Thursday October 20th I attended the red carpet for The White Lotus Season 2 Premiere in Los Angeles where I got to chat with the cast. Attendees included F. Murray Abraham, Jennifer Coolidge, Adam DiMarco, Meghann Fahy, Jon Gries, Beatrice Grannò and more.
The entire cast was elated to be celebrating this new season. “Sometimes if you hang around long enough, your dreams will come true.” Murray expressed. He went on to say, “One of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. And I’ve been doing this for a long time. This was for me, as good as the work I’ve done with Wes Anderson. He was wonderful to work with and so was Mike, a family feeling.”
The cast filmed on location in Sicily, which fully immersed them and their characters in the culture. “I have to say you know being in Sicily with Mike White and the cast and you know I know a lot of them. I know Jon Gries from last year and I made some new Italian friends. But you know it’s riveting to be in another country and you’re on a job and experiencing something.” Jennifer Coolidge said.
Other HBO stars on the carpet included Quincy Isaiah and Solomon Hughes from HBO’s “Winning Time.” As well as Lukas Gage from season 1 of “The White Lotus.” Actor and Comedian Eric André was also in attendance.
The White Lotus Season 2 is available to stream on HBO Max.
On Saturday October 8th I attended the Gypsy Sport Spring 2023 Fashion Show. Held at the Lighthouse Artspace in Hollywood, the building was formerly and most iconically known as the legendary Amoeba Music Building. A fitting venue for the style of Gypsy Sport.
The Gypsy Sport logo filled the room as the beat of the music intensified- anticipating the start of the show. This was Rio Uribe’s second show back in Los Angeles, his hometown.
In its entirety, the show explored the classic Chicano character and many of its diversified forms. To be Chicano isn’t necessarily one stereotype. Fashion is expression. There are endless possibilities and forms to express being Chicano.
The iconic Pachuco zoot suit made more than one appearance on the runway. Being further deconstructed from its classic form each new time it stepped out on the runway with a different model.
New life was brought to these long standing classic styles within the Chicano community. As each model walked the runway, their energy merged into the look and became one identity. It was beautiful to see how many interpretations one can produce of one iconic style design.
If LA Chicano fashion culture was reimagined, it would be by the hands of Rio Uribe. His ability to take risks and play, recalling his memories from being a teenager in Los Angeles is refreshing to see.
On Saturday, September 17th I attended LA’s newest rooftop event venue ICARUS. Guests were among the first to experience this one-of-a-kind event space with unrivaled 360° views of the Hollywood Mountains.
On the evening of Saturday, September 10th, Albright College returned to the runways of NYFW with its “8 Collections” Fashion Show. For its second year in a row, Albright sent collections from 6 recent graduates and 2 current students down the celebrated runways of NYFW.
Designers included Jennifer Raineri, Camille Fuller, Na’Yalaijah Fournillier, Liz Polley, Nicholas Kedge, Olivia Connor, Jonathan Otero, and Sarah Kim. The runway saw a wide range of inspiration from each designer.
For example designer Camille Fuller presented a collection of naturally dyed ensembles under the title “Earth’s Confections.” The collection was a walking statement that vibrant, contemporary fashion can indeed be environmentally friendly.
Another designer Olivia Connor showed her elegant dressy sportswear collection named “Bittersweet.” According to Connor the collection “was a beautiful representation of the beauty that can emerge from the pain of loss.”
The keystone collection of the evening was presented by returning designer Liz Polley. Her collection was inspired by the various places visited on her travels during the numerous relocations her career has required.
In the audience was influencer & author, Caroline Vazzana, an Albright College Alumni. Also in the audience was noted actor/musician Sloan Morgan (D4M $loan), the West Philadelphia native known for his hit singles “Don’t Diss Me.”
The second annual Albright College show gave the media & public alike the opportunity to see the breadth of talent that have graduated, or will graduate soon, from the program. Overall, the entire show was a success.
