The summer blockbuster ‘Sketch’ hit theaters on Aug. 6 , allowing viewers to dive into a world filled with fantasy and imaginative creatures coming to life. The film portrayed the story of how a family lost a loved one, specifically focusing on how Amber, the young girl in the film and how she overcame and expressed her emotions while dealing with unresolved grief and how her coping mechanisms were to draw sketches, but dark ones.
The Knockturnal sat down with the cast and director of Sketch in which the cast discussed what it was like stepping into the roles of characters with complex stories and backgrounds following how the film came to life. Tony Hale and D’Arcy Carden (Taylor and Liz) shared their excitement with working together on the film. They both emphasized it was easy for them to play siblings in the film because they share the same comedic language, and both value each other’s work. Bianca Belle who played Amber, opened up and shared how related she was to this character and what it was like to step into Amber’s shoes. Kalon Kox shared what possible different outcomes would look like in the film if it were based on his sketches and his life in the film, following his amazing performance as Bowman.
As the creator and the director of the film, Seth Worley discussed the intention of adding the use of horror sounds and visuals to the fantasy and comedy film. As well the incorporation of the mix of tones he used to portray the darker elements that the characters were going through but to also portray them visually.
