Hailing from Los Angeles, CA, André Miguel & The Moment are solidifying their spot as the city’s next premier musical act with tremendous verve and unmistakable distinction.
With a starkly refreshing aesthetic and a sonic backdrop enticing enough to keep anyone fascinated, the groovy collective specializes in an unprecedented array of genres: rock, funk, punk and Latin music.
“I would describe our sound as a heartbeat,” Miguel said. “High energy, taking you on a journey highs and lows the way your heart reads on EKGs, reminding you you’re still alive.
Composed of three lead vocalists: André Miguel, Jackie Bonsignore, Natalie Luna and an accompanying full-fledged ensemble, the motley crew has made quite the mark across Southern California’s vibrant live music landscape.
The collective have been in unison for several years and have been able to build a formidable bond, which is an essential facet to any genuine band.
“Geez I mean … I’ve known Dre since we were just college kids working at our school run down phone bank,” Bonsignore said. “I appreciate and respect him so much as an artist and songwriter, I’ve loved the collaborative aspect that him, Natalie and I have had from the start – sort of building this band from the ground up. Every session feels like magic! I just feel lucky to be in the room with such incredible artists.”
After taking time to marinate and perfect their sound, they’ve decided to drop their first official single.
Inspired by the robust sonics of Parliament-Funkadelic, Prince, Rick James and Talking Heads, “Who Do You Think You Are” is a punk-funk anthem that delves into the concept of existential dread with candor and firm irreverence.
“The inspiration behind “Who Do You Think You Are” sonically speaking was an ode to my love for funk bands of the 70s & 80s,” Miguel said. “Cats like Parliament-Funkadelic, Zapp, ESG, Talking Heads, Rick James, Ohio Players, The Gap Band, and Prince are guaranteed to get people grooving no matter where you’re at. As far as the subject matter of the song, you’ll just have to listen to it and figure it out for yourself.”
In conjunction with the release of their inaugural single, the group will be doubling down on their output with the subsequent release of their first full-length project.
“The long-term vision is to make albums until we have nothing left to say,” Miguel said. “We want to keep exploring new and unique sounds and make works of art. That and playing bigger stages alongside the best musicians working right now. I feel that music is a relay race. The previous generation passes on the baton to the next generation to make noise and say what they feel. Once we’ve said all we have to say, we’ll pass the baton on.”
If you claim to be someone truly invested in the future of Rock ‘N’ Roll music, André Miguel & The Moment should be at the forefront of your purview.
