On November 18th streaming network ALLBLK premiered rap pioneer MC Lyte’s sitcom Partners in Rhyme.
The series was produced by Lyte and Lynn Richardson in association with production company Sunni Gyrl along with Harvest Studio’s Bentley Kyle Evans, ALLBLK executives Brett Dismuke and Nikki Love. Lyte stars in the series which follows her character Lana Crawford, who not only shares Lyte’s birth name but is also a rap legend who is tasked with stepping into the background as a mentor to her niece, who aspires to reach her aunt’s legendary status in the music industry. The series tackles a variety of issues within the music industry such as ageism.
Also starring alongside Lyte are Queens star Precious Way who plays Lana’s niece and rising star Lucious T, Ron G from Key & Peele as Lana’s younger brother Mekhai Crawford, former talk show host and actress Rolanda Watts as Hazel Wilson a label executive who has the power to make and break music careers, and Wesley Jonathan as recording engineer Boston Jacobs.
Although the series premiere was held virtually, VIP guests were treated to goodies such as a Victrola Mini Bluetooth Boombox, JVC Headphones, a Custom Mixtape Cassette, a Partners In Rhyme Snapback Hat, a copy of the book Unstoppable written by Mc Lyte, plus a bottle of bubbles from McBride Sisters and throwback treats from the 90’s.
ALL BLK also made a donation to the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation on behalf of the Partners in Rhyme Virtual Premiere.
