Adé formerly known as Phil Adé announced his signing with Epic Records along with his debut EP, ALWAYS SOMETHING.
We got a chance to talk to the DMV artist about his past and hear his upcoming plans since signing to Epic.
Adé told us, “it was just the right situation, and I was comfortable with everyone here at Epic, it’s been a good family vibe here”. Now that he recently put out his EP, Adé said that “I really want to get on the road in the U.S. and also overseas, that’s a market I really haven’t tapped into, even earlier on in my career, I really want to get overseas and touch the people out there”. He wants to be able to set the foundation in the states but later on be able to have his music recognized in the U.K. as well.
He decided to shorten his name from Phil Adé to just Adé. This feels like this is a new chapter for Adé on his musical path, and he also has a very minimalistic approach so he decided to just go by Adé. Still keeping his real name, but just his family name, which is a Nigerian name that means king in the Yoruba language. Coming from the DMV area, Adé grew up on the sound of the DMV, in particular Go-go music and it’s influenced his music. The DMV goes hand in hand with Go-go and it’s an integral part of the music and culture there. That is why Adé gives a lot of importance to his live performance, because that’s what Go-go is.
His recently released EP, ALWAYS SOMETHING has the word “SOMETHING” in each of the song titles on the EP. Adé explained that he had a couple songs already done for the EP and by the time he got around to finishing the project the six song titles were all able to have a similar title since it worked with each song’s theme. He also believes that this project is a sampler of the music he plans on releasing soon and just wanted fans to be familiar with his music and sound. Having some notable features on his EP from Lil Baby, Rich The Kid, Fatman Scoop, GoldLink, and long time collaborator Wale. With the recent signing with Epic, Adé told us, “I’d love to work with everyone here, I don’t think there’s any weak links here at Epic”.
The plan for Adé is to tour in 2019 but if it were up to him he would try and put out an album by the end of the year. As of now he’s focusing on touring with the music he recently put out. He told us, “I did go on tour with Wale in 2016 or 2017 for the Shine Tour and I was doing a couple unreleased songs for that but it’s different when you’re doing your own shows and promoting a project”. Now, Adé will have the spotlight on him and I’m excited to see what he does with it.
