Inspire (verb) — 1. To excite, encourage, or breathe life into.
We often think of inspiration as an external source. We look to other people, stories of the world, and even draw from others’ struggles and efforts. But what happens when a group of women get together to not only inspire each other, but to demand that they each inspire themselves? Cue July 24, 2021: A Day of Inspiration For Women.
In beautiful Newport Beach, California, Liz Holt hosted a life-changing event that I had the honor and privilege of speaking at. I walked into that event with love, knowledge, and energy; what I walked out with was priceless.
The day went a little something like this…
Alexis Silvaggio started out the morning with a much-needed guided meditation and stretch flow, calming both our bodies and minds in preparation for the day. The amazing Bryn Drescher soon followed, teaching us how to empower ourselves and enhance positivity, and how the power of our actions and words can have a huge impact on others (a common theme that emerged from the day).
Keynote speaker, journalist, and author Laura Ling shared her story of courage and hope, visiting China on assignment and being held captive in N. Korea. With riveting details and feeling, she shared her definition of strength and reminded us how one small act of kindness can create a ripple effect, changing lives forever. Laura left us all in tears, and our hearts bursting with gratitude.

After a delicious lunch, I was humbled to share my story on how I befriended my body — from falling “on and off my routine” and the health wagon for years, to learning how to love myself enough to take care of my body. In a world telling us what we should look like, I shared how emphasizing the process of health and fitness, rather than solely on results, is the true key to long-lasting habits. Bringing empowerment to our health creates transformation from the inside out — and this is where the magic really happens.
The afternoon continued as Laura’s House OC spoke of ways to identify toxic communication and potential styles of abuse in different relationships. With stories of pain and bravery, this was truly an important conversation and one to be remembered.
In closing, the Illumination Foundation team brought touching stories of women who found themselves homeless and scared. These women clawed their way up and have created remarkable change for themselves and those around them. Join me in volunteering for this organization by visiting www.ifhomeless.org.
During a beautiful cocktail hour, Katelyn Marie graced us with her soulful music, allowing us a chance to reflect on the day’s conversations and connections.
Looking back on the day, one thing is clear: inspiring others is amazing, but inspiring YOURSELF is extraordinary. And as I remember the thoughts and feelings I experienced on the day of the event, I can honestly say through the courage and vulnerability of the women I met, I got a chance to push through barriers and light my own fire of inspiration inside.
To the women who open themselves up everyday — to hurt, to heal, and to rise, we see you and we stand beside you. The ripple effect continues, as your strength and determination affect us all.
And as we let those around inspire us, remember that it’s okay (and so necessary) to inspire ourselves every once in a while too! To find out more about A Day of Inspiration For Women or learn how you can attend the next event, visit https://limitlesslifebyliz.com.
