Brad Walsh, producer and singer has released his album Six Infinite in NYC with a listening party at the Electric Lady. Check out the interview!

We stopped by the listening party Brad Walsh is no stranger to contemporary pop music. For the past 10 years, Walsh has been creating music and pop remixes of some of the most successful acts. His D.I.Y. innovation and commitment to a danceable beat has landed him contributions to the Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Adam Lamberts discographies, among others.

In the time of 5 years, Brad has produced music, musically appeared on Bravo, E!, Showtime, shot photography, got married to fashion designer Christian Siriano, and has been working on smaller projects on the side.

Now Brad Walsh is turning his attention toward himself, following up a release with a new full-length work, Six Infinite. We attended an intimate listening party at the famed Electric Lady studios to hear the album with guests including Coco Rocha and Lauren Adams. The album is excellent; a mix of sounds that is thoroughly timely and timeless, incorporating compelling lyrics that are both personal and universal, while tying in a signature Walsh guerrilla pop dance beat. Six Infinite features some of Walsh’s favorite musicians including, Juliana Hatfield, Emm Gryner, Luscious Jackson, and Maria McKee. Walsh says, “To have these artists on my album feels like a dream.” We spoke with Walsh at the listening party in a backstage room. Here are some highlights from our chat!

The Knockturnal: It’s your debut?

Brad Walsh: It’s not. I’ve had two EPs in the last two years. But I had a full-length in 2011. But this is my first big release.

The Knockturnal: What is the inspiration here?

Brad Walsh: I had a pretty serious friend breakup with a girl I had known for a decade. We were very close and we had a very strange falling-out. I was confused, I was upset and I didn’t understand what was happening so I started writing songs from that. So the inspiration was that break-up anxiety, depression- it was almost like a divorce. But since it took 5 years to put the music out, in that time, the meaning in the songs changed… for me anyway, which I found interesting. For a song meaning to change to an artist is kind of cool. I rewrote a bit here and there, but the final product has songs without that depression- there’s one called “Nicolette Likes Ladies”, which is a fun, energetic rock song about my friend Nicolette, who is a lesbian.

The Knockturnal: You’re really drawing seriously on your friends then?

Brad Walsh: Yes, its a very friend-heavy album. I’m married, my husband is Christian so there’s a love song called “Come Into My World” which is difficult for me.

The Knockturnal: What sound are you going for here?

Brad Walsh: Right, the first track is very EDM, very heavy, lots of sound; lots of energy and as it goes on, there’s lots of energy with a sprinkling of slower, more tender songs. But the sound is pretty cohesive. In interviews I’ve been saying its club music that you’d never hear in the club. There’s real lyrics, there’s real meaning. There’s a minute-long spoken break that’s very political. No one wants to go to the club to hear [that]. But its a great song to play on your own in the car which is how I consume music. I don’t like to go out anymore, I’m not a big clubber. So what I really enjoy is having my friends over, we play loud music and drink, but it’s all at home.

We also learned that Brad Walsh records both in NYC and at a vacation home in Connecticut and anticipates ramping up music production in the coming years! Definitely stay tuned!
