Broadway takes on the Grammys as the smash hit Hamilton’s cast performs at the grand musical awards night.
Taking the nation by storm, Hamilton the hip hop telling of the tale of Alexander Hamilton is a Broadway play that gained monstrous success overnight. Created by the multitalented Lin-Manuel Miranda, the play and cast became an instant fan favorite and clearly the public’s attention was caught because the cast recently was notified that they would be performing at the Grammys on February 15.
The performance will actually be broadcasted from the Richard Rogers Theater, which was the New York stage for the play. The venue will also have a live audience along with the live telecast that will be shown during the Grammys. The cast is performing the opening number from the play, and this is the first time a Broadway play is being broadcasted through satellite.
Hamilton’s cast album is also nominated for a Grammy for musical theater cast recording. The cast, upon hearing both sets of news, released a video showing their immense excitement. All of this news garnered a statement from Miranda himself, “We’re going to do the opening number, scream with joy, and then celebrate the fact that we were just on the Grammys. Best night ever” he told to USA Today. He went on to explain how the cast had never done a live performance for a televised audience, but immediately appreciated the executives’ willingness to accommodate theater needs.
As of now the 58th Grammys have announced performances from artists such as, Adele, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Little Big Town, Lady Gaga (performing the Bowie tribute), and now the Hamilton cast.
The Grammys will air February 15th at 8 p.m. Easter Time.
