It’s time to morph! Or at least it’s time for Elizabeth Banks to morph into her new role in the Power Rangers movie.
Many may remember waking up in the early mornings and catching up on the new adventures of the Power Rangers. The show was so popular in the 90s it became normal to see the colorful rangers everywhere, whether it be merchandise or in the many spin-off shows created. It is now time for every childhood memory to be awakened with the announcement and progression of the movie adaptation of the “Mighty Morphin Rangers”. The project was announced by Lionsgate almost two years ago but has been slowly developing. Finally details are coming together and more of the cast of the movie has been settled.
Recently the cast has been expanded beyond the main rangers and the titular role of Rita Repulsa was given to actress Elizabeth Banks. The main villain from the original show is constantly seen seeking world domination before being thwarted by the main gang of heroes, who will be played by Becky G (yellow ranger), Ludi Lin (black ranger), Naomi Scott (pink ranger), Dacre Montgomery (red ranger), and R.J. Cyler (blue ranger). Banks is the biggest name associated to the movie as of yet, and her association has definitely brought in more attention than already. However Banks is known to do both movies with strong scripts, and full on comedic performances so it is hard to determine which way the “Power Rangers” movie will be going in. The public is still waiting for more casting decisions to be made, which should be announced soon. Despite the delays for production, the movie seems to be more on track now and will begin photography later this month.
Directed by Dean Israelite, known for work like Project Almana, and produced by Saban Films’ Haim Saban and Brian Casentini. Other producers include Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey and Allison Shearmur will be the executive producer. The script of the movie adaptation was written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz who have experience with other major productions such as, X-Men: First Class, Thor, and many more. Considering the writing prowess shown in previous projects it will definitely be interesting to see what the cast and crew will be bringing to the movie.
Other details known are that the movie reboot is being filmed in Vancouver and will begin production February 29th and will end on May 25th. The movie is expected to be in theaters March 24th, 2017. Another year will have to pass for fans to know if it’s time to bring out the Power Rangers gear in full blast, or keep it packed away as a fond memory.
