Global tastemakers bring their work to life for NYFW.
Parsons MFA catwalk show took place in NYC’s Milk Studios. The showcase puts front Parsons developing youth in to the center of New York’s Fashion Week. Parsons School of Design is a front runner in creating fashion’s newest and most innovative leaders. Eleven international tastemakers brought their creations to life as they had the crowd in utter awe with some of the daring looks. The designers were from Australia, China, Italy, Finland and more.
Ryoehei Kawanishi, a student from Japan, had a line inspired by hardware stores like Home Depot. Kawanishi’s collection consisted of everyday household essentials transformed into runway ready garments. Katherine Mavrids from Australia, had an enticing collection with pieces that could stand independent from the body. The looks consisted of exaggerated internal structuring which created an illusion of fullness.
Ultimately, the show presented a global collaborative collection of designs from the illustrators of tomorrow. Each collection stood on its own as the styles and stitch of each designer varied greatly from the next whilst highlighting different cultural influences. The clear trend for this show was definitely chic comfort and abstract finesse!
