“10,000 KM” tells the famous tale of long-distance lovers through a modern lens to create a new and exciting story for audiences.

Alexandra (Natalia Tena) and Sergi (David Verdagur) live in Barcelona with a plan of having a baby when their future is questioned when Alexandra receives an offer to work as a photographer in Los Angeles for one year. The couple feels confident they can make the relationship work through the use of Skype and text messages so Alexandra accepts the offer. However throughout the course of the film, the physical distance proves to be more of a barrier than they has originally thought.
What this film brings to audiences is the angle of modern technology and where it helps long-distance relationships and where it falls short. A large portion of the film is shown through Skype calls between the couple where one says goodnight as the other says good morning. Whereas once a 10,000km distance meant delayed letters and high postage fees, now two people can communicate nearly face to face through web cameras. However, there is also the factor of physically being apart from someone that is still a major problem in relationships today, as shown by this film. 10,000 KM seeks to understand and convey these challenges to show what long-distance relationships mean today and technology’s influence on that.
This concept is brought out in the contrast between the beginning of the film where the audience sees the couple in their Barcelona apartment, and later when they are seen Skyping with choppy connection, one unable to understand the other. It is also brought out through Alexandra’s adaptation to her Los Angeles life. Sergi is seen torn between wanting Alexandra to make friends and have fun, and also not wanting to lose her as a part of his life.
10,000 km is a revamped version of the tale of two distanced lovers. It brings the story to life through being relatable to a modern day audience. Whether experienced in long-distance relationships or not, anyone is able to find truth in this story.

The film is now playing.
