The Knockturnal attended the Remy Ma Fan Experience at CityPlex 12 in Newark, where a packed theater of supporters gathered to celebrate the release of her new six-song EP, The Alimony.Fans enjoyed catered food, popcorn, candy and treats while watching clips from Remy’s upcoming documentary before she took the stage to perform “Who Raised You?” and “REM the Pen.”
Honest, vulnerable and direct, Remy explained that The Alimony is not simply a clapback. It is about speaking up when false narratives are created while recognizing that silence can also be misinterpreted. She has taken those moments from her life and turned them into a musical moment.
Remy also shouted out longtime collaborator Ron Browz, recalling how she called him and he told her exactly what recording equipment to purchase. Browz then came by, helped set it up and taught her how to record herself.
Reflecting on her 12 years since incarceration, Remy spoke about protecting the freedom she has earned and refusing to be pulled backward. Regarding her marriage, she described a similar evolution—no longer sheltering adults from consequences while embracing both softness and strength.
That balance extends to her roles as a mother, MC and newly liberated woman. There is also a sensuality in Remy that exists alongside the rapper, visible in her latest visual and heard in the assured, heartfelt music.
Her message resonated: Black women can endure a lot, but endurance does not mean they have to keep enduring everything.
Featuring collaborations including KeKe Wyatt, The Alimony captures Remy in a new chapter. The strength that filled the Newark theater made the evening feel less like a traditional fan experience and more like a family reunion. Remy’s supporters are watching and experiencing this chapter with her.
