Ahead of the premiere of Season 2 of NBC comedy series St. Denis Medical, I had the pleasure of talking to stars Allison Tolman, Kaliko Kauahi and Mekki Leeper for an exclusive junket conversation.
St. Denis Medical follows the overworked doctors and nurses working at an underfunded Oregon hospital, shot in the mockumentary style of beloved shows like The Office and Superstore.
Allison Tolman, who plays workaholic supervising nurse Alex, said that she had always wanted to land a role on a mockumentary because it looked so much fun to film, and it definitely met that expectation. After working on many shows for just one season (Shining Vale, Gaslit, and Why Women Kill just to name a few) she was excited to get to come back to family for Season 2 of this show and continue telling these stories.
Mekki Leeper, who plays newly-hired registered nurse from Montana Matt, commented that he thinks the reason people still love watching mockumentary-style shows is that they remind people of the joy and creativity of making videos with their friends when they were younger.
Kaliko Kauahi, who plays nurse administrator Val, previously worked with creator Justin Spitzer on Superstore, and was excited to continue working in the mockumentary format while getting to tell stories in a brand new environment.
Season 2 of St. Denis Medical premiers with the first 2 episodes on Monday, November 3, on NBC, and continues weekly along with streaming on Peacock and Hulu.
