In the ever-evolving landscape of wellness and empowerment events, GIRLS GONE ACTIVE has emerged as a powerful force, creating spaces where women can come together to celebrate their strength, resilience, and commitment to personal growth.
Following the success of its inaugural event that drew attention from around the globe, GIRLS GONE ACTIVE has teamed up with the iconic Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) and DJ Shai to present the ‘Release, Refresh, Renew – Water Wellness Workshop.’ This unique event was a day of rejuvenation, self-discovery, and empowerment. DJ Shai, a driving force behind GIRLS GONE ACTIVE, emphasizes the significance of water as an ancient symbol of purification, power, growth, vitality, and life-giving. The workshop is not just about physical wellness but encompasses mental and emotional well-being, offering a holistic approach to personal growth.
This is such a unique and beautiful opportunity,” says DJ Shai, “and I can’t wait to see the Goddess power that exudes from the participants once they take the tools from the day learned and implement them into their everyday lives. We are dispelling the myth of Black women not wanting to utilize aerobic activity in water during their health journey.”

The Los Angeles Athletic Club, a historic private club where Olympians have trained in various dimensions, provided the perfect setting for a day dedicated to self-care. Participants were invited to step away from the noise of the outside world and immerse themselves in the luxuries of this exclusive venue. The goal was to allow women to release the weight of the past, refresh their spirits, and renew their commitment to personal growth as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. GIRLS GONE ACTIVE events are more than just one-day gatherings; they are intentional experiences that extend beyond the event itself.
The ‘Release, Refresh, Renew’ workshop included a light energizing warm-up led by Mychele Sims that quickly turned into a “Soul Train Line,” followed by guided meditation breathwork led by Yoga by Rony. After the group learned how to fully utilize their lungs, they took a dip into the pristine pool for water aerobics instructed by Kierstan Hernandez and lastly, Ashley Banks, founder of the Sacred Healing House led an immersive hydrotherapy sound bath releasing any tension and stress that remained. Participants also had the opportunity to build a supportive community with like-minded peers over refreshments from Health-Ade Kombucha and Mela Water, libations from ShinJu Whiskey, and custom healthy bites.

The inclusivity of GIRLS GONE ACTIVE is a crucial aspect of its mission. The organization aims to dispel stereotypes and create spaces where women from all walks of life can come together. DJ Shai’s emphasis on challenging the myth that Black women are not interested in water aerobics during their health journey exemplifies the commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity within the wellness community. As GIRLS GONE ACTIVE continues to make waves in the wellness and empowerment space, the ‘Release, Refresh, Renew – Water Wellness Workshop’ stands as a testament to the organization’s dedication to providing transformative experiences for women who seek to prioritize their well-being and personal growth. To thank participants, lululemon gift bags were generously filled with products from sponsors Pure Patch Wearable Nutrition, Yuni Mindful Beauty, Troop Daily Mushroom Gummies, and Ameva Essential Skin Biotech. Each item was carefully selected to ensure the healing and self care that was presented at the retreat continues on into the weeks to come.
