On June 16, musician and actor Nicholas Hamilton released his beautiful new single ‘Spins.’ The track is tied to Pride Month. Hamilton is often compared to Lewis Capaldi, Hosier, and Ed Sheeran.

In 2021, Hamilton began releasing singles. Tracks include ‘Different Year’ (2021), ‘noRoom’ (2021), and ‘In Line’ (2021). This effort culminated in his first EP, “Pretty Young”. In Fall 2023, he plans to release his second EP “FATE.” Fans can find his recent track on this album. To learn more about Hamilton’s new single, read the interview transcript below.

The Knockturnal: What is your vision behind your new song?

Nicholas Hamilton: ‘Spins’ is about mine and my now boyfriend’s second date. I’d been out drinking before Jackson texted me asking to have a drink together, so I pulled myself up by the jockstrap and said yes. I got to the bar we were meeting at early so I ordered a drink, When arrived, we had drinks and the waiter thought we were so cute that he ordered us two shots each.

By this time, I’m plastered, trying my best to hold it together. Jackson invites me for a walk to one of his favourite spots, a bench overlooking the Manhattan skyline. We sit down and start kissing, but I’m so inebriated that when I close my eyes to kiss him everything starts spinning. I either had to make out with this guy with the widest open eyes you’ve ever seen or tell him that I couldn’t keep kissing him.

I did the latter, he was fine with it because he’s awesome, and we just sat there, looking at the skyline that was swaying way more than it usually does. I had to hold myself together just enough to not tell this guy I was on my second date with that I already loved him. Because I did, I already loved him. And I still do! So that’s nice.

The Knockturnal: How did you start writing this song?

Nicholas Hamilton: I wrote the song the morning after the date. My hungover brain needed to put the story on paper, otherwise, I was going to either forget how much love I felt for this guy the night prior or just text him then and there that I wanted his babies. Thank God it worked.

The Knockturnal: Please talk about this song’s production process.

Nicholas Hamilton: We recorded and produced the song when the upcoming EP was being put together a few months ago. I loved it from the get, I knew it had to be a single. It’s moving and emotional and is basically my full heart on a plate.

The Knockturnal: Will there be a music video? If so, what if the story behind it?

Nicholas Hamilton: Jackson and I went to Washington Square Park and filmed a timelapse of a bench for an hour for the lyric video, which will come out the same time the song does. It’s cute and minimalistic and includes a cheeky cameo from the boy himself!

The Knockturnal: What do you hope that viewers will get from this song?

Nicholas Hamilton: As always, you hope that people relate to your music. Whether it’s the gay pride of it all or just the cute story and the obvious, apparent love throughout the track. I just hope people see some of themselves in the song, or perhaps what they hope for themselves.

The Knockturnal: Please talk about any upcoming songs and the EP.

Nicholas Hamilton: The EP will come out in the Fall! It’s called Fate. Every track is supper ballad-y and emotive and fully me. I’m more than excited for everyone to get their ears onto it.
